Jungle Beach sits on the western side of the Rumassala peninsula, a forested headland that Hindu legend identifies as the point where the god Hanuman dropped a piece of the Himalayas while carrying medicinal herbs. The beach is a 15-minute walk through dense coastal jungle from the road, and the lack of infrastructure keeps it quieter than Unawatuna. The water clarity here is noticeably better than the main Unawatuna bay because the cove faces away from the town runoff. Bring your own food and water, as there are no permanent vendors. The forest behind the beach is home to a population of grey langur monkeys.
Bring all food, water, and sunscreen — there are no vendors at the beach.
Wear shoes for the 15-minute forest walk to reach the beach.
Go on a weekday morning for the most secluded experience.
