Lover's Leap Waterfall drops approximately 30 metres into a rocky gorge on the edge of the Nuwara Eliya tea district. The name derives from a colonial-era story about a British planter's daughter and a local worker. The waterfall is accessible via a 10-minute walk from the road near Pedro Tea Estate on the Nuwara Eliya to Kandapola road. The path passes through active tea bushes and the view from the base includes the surrounding highland ridges. Water flow is strongest between May and September during the south-west monsoon. The site has minimal infrastructure, which keeps visitor numbers lower than more developed attractions in the area.
Visit between May and September for maximum water flow.
The path to the base is slippery after rain — wear grip shoes.
Combine with a visit to Pedro Tea Estate (2km away) for a half-day Nuwara Eliya excursion.
Best time of day: May to September for strongest flow; December to April for dry paths
