Nissan NV350 Caravan

The Nissan NV350 Caravan (E26 generation, 2012 onwards) is the main alternative to the KDH HiAce in Sri Lanka's group tour market. MySL Travel — one of the highest-rated Sri Lanka operators on TripAdvisor — uses the NV350 as a standard vehicle for multi-day tours, with dual AC and cabin width cited as the reasons.

The dual independent AC system is the standout feature: front and rear blower units work separately, so rear row passengers get the same cool air as those at the front. On a 5- to 6-hour run to Ella in tropical heat, that is a real difference from a single roof-mounted unit. The taller, wider high-roof body gives more headroom than a standard KDH and the adjustable seats allow different comfort configurations. The 2.5L turbodiesel covers all tourist routes including hill country.

With a roof rack fitted, operators advertise 7 to 8 suitcases plus hand luggage. With fewer than 8 passengers, the rear cargo area takes additional bags internally. For multi-day group tours where passenger comfort ranks as high as vehicle access, the NV350 is worth requesting specifically.
