Confirmation is 10% for trips starting with an airport pickup, 25% otherwise, and cancellation with a full refund is available under the conditions on our terms page. The balance is paid as the tour runs, never all upfront to a stranger.
No shopping-stop surprises
Some drivers in Sri Lanka earn commissions steering guests to gem shops and spice gardens. Tell us in advance you would rather skip shopping stops and we plan the itinerary without them and instruct your driver accordingly. Your time belongs to you.

How much does a private driver cost in Sri Lanka?
Across marketplaces and traveller forums in 2026, a car with driver runs roughly US$40 to US$75 a day for a sedan, US$65 to US$100 for an SUV or minivan, and US$90 to US$170 for larger vans, depending on route, season and what is included. What is the difference between a driver, a chauffeur guide and a tourist guide?
Three levels. A driver is an expert on the roads themselves: routes, timing, fuel stops, with working English; you plan the days and the driver executes them. A chauffeur guide adds trip expertise: itinerary recommendations, day planning, the right food and photo stops, friendly English, a hassle-free journey managed for you. An SLTDA licensed chauffeur tourist guide adds formal guiding on top, walking you through the sites with the history and culture explained. We staff all three and match the right person to your group and interests.
Do I pay a deposit? Is it refundable?

Will the driver take us shopping at gem shops or spice gardens?
Only if you want those stops. Tell us in advance that you would rather skip shopping stops and we plan the itinerary without them and instruct your driver accordingly.
Who pays for the driver's food and accommodation on multi-day trips?
We do; it is inside your quote. Most tourist hotels in Sri Lanka provide driver quarters, and where they do not, the cost is ours to manage, not a surprise line on your bill.
How much should we tip a driver in Sri Lanka?
Tipping is customary but always at your discretion. Traveller guides commonly cite around US$10 to US$20 per day for a driver and more for a chauffeur guide who has guided well. Treat it as thanks for good service, never an obligation.
Can I just rent a car and drive myself in Sri Lanka?
Foreign licences and IDPs alone are not enough: since 2025 visitors also need a local recognition permit arranged through the Automobile Association of Ceylon before driving. Between the paperwork, local driving styles and unmarked rural roads, most visitors find a driver costs little more than self-drive once fuel and insurance are counted, and turns driving time into sightseeing time.
