Toyota Allion / Premio
A step up from the Axio with a noticeably more spacious rear seat. Widely available across Sri Lanka's hire fleet — 3 adults in the rear sit comfortably even on long transfers.
About This Vehicle
The Toyota Allion and Premio (ZRT260/NZT260 series) are badge-engineered twins on the same platform. Both are Japanese domestic market vehicles imported to Sri Lanka in large numbers and actively listed by hire operators island-wide. Rofi.lk describes the Allion as 'the preferred sedan for business and leisure in Sri Lanka.'
The key advantage over an Axio or Prius is rear space. The bench is wider and has more knee room — 3 adults sit comfortably, not packed. On a 4- to 5-hour transfer from Colombo to Ella that difference matters. The 1.8L petrol engine is refined and quiet at highway speed. Boot capacity is around 450 L, similar to the Axio.
Coverage is the same as any sedan: all sealed tourist routes including Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, the Southern Expressway, and the cultural triangle. Practical limit is the same 150 mm ground clearance — sealed roads only, no safari or unpaved tracks.
