Toyota KDH HiAce (9-Seater)

The Toyota KDH HiAce (200/202 series, Super GL configuration) is the most common group tour vehicle in Sri Lanka — used by virtually every operator for parties of 5 to 9 passengers. The 3.0L diesel (1KD-FTV) runs long loaded routes without strain: the Colombo to Ella circuit and the steep Kandy to Nuwara Eliya climb are daily work for this vehicle.

Nine airline-style seats in three rows give all passengers window access. A steel roof rack handles 6 to 8 standard suitcases — drivers stack and strap these securely as a matter of routine. The interior stays clear for passengers and smaller bags. Most touring KDH vans are fitted with upgraded individual seats, strong roof-mounted AC, and privacy curtains.

For groups of 5 to 9, the KDH is better value than multiple sedans and more practical than a mini bus on narrower hill country roads. On the tightest mountain lanes — Ella approaches, Knuckles viewpoints — oncoming lorry traffic sometimes requires careful positioning, but the KDH reaches every major tourist destination in Sri Lanka without restriction.
