Toyota KDH HiAce (12-Seater)

The Toyota KDH HiAce 220/222 is the extended high-roof variant of the standard KDH 202, adding three more rows and a taller cabin profile. It is the right vehicle for groups of 10 to 12 passengers — large enough that splitting into two 9-seat vans adds unnecessary cost, but not so large that the Mitsubishi Rosa or Toyota Coaster makes sense. Camingo Travels, one of Sri Lanka's larger operators, lists both a 10-seat Super GL and a 15-seat HiAce configuration.

The higher roof gives standing headroom inside for passengers boarding and stowing small bags. The 3.0L turbodiesel (1KD-FTV) is the same engine as the standard KDH — built for long loaded runs on every tourist route including hill country. A steel roof rack above handles 6 to 8 suitcases; the longer body also provides slightly more footwell space for carry-ons inside.

It handles the same routes as the standard 9-seater: no restriction on sealed tourist roads including Kandy, Ella, Sigiriya, and the southern coast. On very narrow mountain village lanes, the extra length of the high-roof body requires more care when passing, but all main tourist destinations are accessible.
