About Ramboda Falls

Ramboda Falls drops 109 metres in two stages down the Panna Oya valley at Ramboda Pass, on the A5 highway roughly halfway between Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, making it Sri Lanka's 11th-highest waterfall. A small shrine to Hanuman sits partway down the marked path from the main viewpoint, and the surrounding hillsides are working tea estates. The fall runs fullest during and just after the April-June and October-December monsoon periods, when the drive up the pass's hairpin bends is at its most dramatic. Stop at the roadside viewpoint for the classic photo, or take the 10-15 minute walk down the steps for a closer look at the lower tier.

Highlights

  • 109-metre two-stage waterfall
  • 11th-highest waterfall in Sri Lanka
  • Roadside viewpoint on the A5 Kandy-Nuwara Eliya highway
  • Hanuman shrine on the path to the lower tier
  • Surrounded by working tea estates

Practical Tips

Stop at the marked roadside viewpoint on the A5 for the classic photo without leaving the vehicle.

The 10-15 minute walk down the steps to the lower tier gets you closer but is uneven in wet weather.

Falls run fullest just after the April-June and October-December monsoon rains.
