Day 1
Arrival and Sigiriya
Colombo (Airport) to Sigiriya
Your driver-guide meets you at the airport for the drive north, roughly 3.5-4 hours. If you arrive early enough, climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress the same afternoon to avoid the hotter midday hours, or save it for a fresh start tomorrow depending on your flight time.

Day 2
Sigiriya to Kandy
Sigiriya to Kandy
A morning stop at Dambulla Cave Temple, five caves with around 150 Buddha statues and murals, on the way south, roughly 1.5-2 hours total to Kandy. In the evening, an optional Kandyan cultural dance show, with drumming and, at some venues, fire-walking performed in the same programme.

Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in the morning. In the afternoon, drive up through the Ramboda Pass to Nuwara Eliya, roughly 2.5-3 hours, stopping at Ramboda Falls.

Day 4

A morning tea estate and factory visit, then the drive to Ella, roughly 2.5-3 hours via Welimada, a small hill town known for its viewpoints and the nearby Nine Arch Bridge, built by the British in 1921.

Ella to Yala
Ella to Tissamaharama (Yala)
A morning walk to Little Adam's Peak or Nine Arch Bridge before checking out. In the afternoon, drive down to Tissamaharama, roughly 3 hours via Wellawaya, for an evening game drive into Yala National Park.

Yala to Mirissa

Day 7
Galle Fort day trip
Mirissa to Galle and back
A short drive west, roughly 45 minutes, for a day trip to Galle. Spend the day walking Galle Fort's ramparts, a Dutch-era fortification (fortified 1663, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988) with boutique shops, cafes and a lighthouse, before returning to Mirissa for a second night.

Colombo and departure
Mirissa to Colombo (Airport)
Transfer to Colombo from Mirissa, roughly 2-2.5 hours via the Southern Expressway. A final city stop, time permitting, before the drop-off at Bandaranaike International Airport.

Is the Sigiriya climb manageable for children or grandparents?
It involves roughly 1,200 steps and some steep, exposed sections near the top, including a spiral staircase past the frescoes. Younger children usually manage it; older travellers with knee or heart concerns may prefer to view it from the base and gardens instead.
Is whale watching guaranteed?
No, it's weather- and season-dependent and offered as an optional paid add-on in Mirissa, not included in the base package. The best window is roughly November-April; outside that, boats may not run.
How much walking is Galle Fort?
It's flat and stroller-friendly, mostly paved ramparts and streets, making it one of the easier full days on this route for mixed-age groups.
Can very young children join the Yala safari?
Yes, jeep safaris are open to all ages, though early starts (around 6am) and multi-hour drives on unpaved roads suit some children better than others. Ask about a shorter afternoon drive instead if that fits your family better.
