Victoria Park

Victoria Park opened in 1897 and takes up several acres in the middle of Nuwara Eliya town, a short walk from Gregory Lake and the Nuwara Eliya Post Office. Paved paths wind through flower beds, clipped lawns, and stands of tall trees that shelter both resident and migratory birds, including the Kashmir flycatcher and Indian blue robin during the northern winter migration. Entry costs a small fee, and the park is at its best during the March-to-May and August-to-September flowering seasons, when Nuwara Eliya's cool climate keeps the beds in bloom longer than lowland gardens. Set aside an hour or two, and bring a light jacket, the shaded paths stay cool even at midday.
