Overview

Ceylon Wellness Retreat is a 7-day Ayurveda programme at a single government-registered resort on the south-west coast, built around treatment rather than sightseeing: you stay in one place, see the same physician daily, and follow a diet and treatment plan matched to your dosha. Day one opens with a consultation with a Sri Lankan Ayurvedic doctor, who assesses your constitution and prescribes a daily schedule of real clinical procedures: Abhyanga (synchronised oil massage), Shirodhara (a steady stream of warm oil across the forehead), Udvartana (herbal powder massage) and Swedana (herbal steam), alongside twice-daily yoga. Meals are cooked to your dosha and a physician is typically on hand at mealtimes to answer questions; alcohol is not part of the programme. Seven days gives a genuine introduction to Ayurveda medicine, but it is shorter than the 14-21 day cycle Sri Lankan Ayurvedic physicians consider necessary for a full Panchakarma detox, ask your consultant about extending if a deeper cleanse is the goal. Sri Lanka's Ayurveda sector is regulated by the Department of Ayurveda, look for that certification, not just a spa brochure, when comparing resorts.

Route

7 days round trip from Colombo, through Beruwala

Colombo (arrival/departure via Colombo Airport)Beruwala (6 nights, single-base retreat)

Day by Day

Day 1

Arrival and consultation

Colombo (Airport) to Beruwala

Your driver-guide meets you at the airport for the transfer to Beruwala, roughly 1.5-2 hours. Check in, then meet your assigned physician for an initial consultation and dosha assessment that shapes the week's treatment plan. A light welcome treatment and your first dosha-matched dinner close the day.

  • Airport pickup
  • Transfer to Beruwala
  • Physician consultation and dosha assessment
  • Welcome treatment

  • Swedana
  • Group yoga session

Day 3

Shirodhara day

Day 4

Lighter day

Beruwala (resort)

  • Nasya (if prescribed)
  • Light yoga
  • Free time
  • Optional guided walk

Day 5

Continued cycle

Beruwala (resort)

Your physician reviews progress and may adjust the treatment plan. If the schedule allows a lighter afternoon, a short optional excursion to nearby Bentota, the turtle hatchery or a walk by the river, is possible with physician sign-off.

  • Treatment per revised plan
  • Physician review
  • Optional short Bentota excursion

Day 6

Final treatment day

Beruwala (resort)

The last full day of the programme. Treatments continue as prescribed, closing with an evening consultation covering what to maintain at home: diet, stretches, and which treatments to consider on a future, longer visit.

  • Final treatment session
  • Closing physician consultation
  • Take-home diet and lifestyle plan

Day 7

Good to know

Is 7 days enough for real results?

It's enough for a genuine introduction, better sleep, less stress, a reset on diet, but it is short of the 14-21 day cycle Ayurvedic physicians generally consider necessary for a full Panchakarma detox. Ask about extending if a deeper cleanse is your goal.

Is this medically supervised or just a spa with Ayurveda branding?

This resort is certified by Sri Lanka's Department of Ayurveda and staffed by qualified physicians who assess and adjust your plan daily, not a fixed spa menu. Confirm certification directly with any resort you compare it against.

Can we drink alcohol or eat off-plan during the week?

Not really, alcohol and food outside your prescribed diet work against the treatment and most resorts discourage it for the week. If that's a dealbreaker, a shorter 3-4 day introductory stay may suit you better than the full 7-day programme.

Are any of the treatments physically uncomfortable?

Some can feel intense, herbal steam and nasal treatments especially, though nothing is forced and your physician adjusts intensity to your tolerance. Tell your physician about any medical conditions, pregnancy or recent surgery before treatments begin.

Can we extend the trip or slow it down?

Yes. Every itinerary is a starting point: add nights in any city, swap hotels, or slow the pace. Tell us in your enquiry and we shape the route around your dates.
