What the Drive Is Like
Roads
The route follows the coastal A3 north from Colombo through Negombo and Chilaw, then continues to Puttalam and up the narrow Kalpitiya peninsula on local roads. The A3 is a busy two-lane coastal road; the final peninsula road is narrower and passes through a series of small fishing villages.
Scenery
The drive hugs the western coastal lagoon and sea for much of the journey. You pass fishing harbours, salt pans, and lagoon-side coconut groves. The Kalpitiya peninsula itself is ringed by the Puttalam Lagoon on one side and the open sea on the other.
