Roads
From Colombo the route joins the A6 at Ambepussa, then passes through Kurunegala and continues northeast through Dambulla. The A6 continues from Dambulla to Habarana, then Kantale, before reaching Trincomalee. The road from Colombo to Kurunegala is well-maintained and busy. The Dambulla to Habarana section passes through the Cultural Triangle and is in generally good condition. East of Habarana the A6 becomes quieter as it crosses dry-zone plains toward the coast.
Scenery
The western section from Colombo to Kurunegala passes through rubber and coconut country. After Kurunegala the landscape opens to paddy and scrub before the Dambulla area with its distinctive rocky outcrops.
