Aerial view of a tropical Sri Lankan beach

Beach & Water route · November to April

Sri Lanka Itinerary: 5 Days - South Coast Express

The short beach holiday, done in the right season. Bentota comes first: a wide, calm beach beside a mangrove river you can explore by boat, with a turtle hatchery down the road at Kosgoda. Mirissa follows for the second half, a smaller bay known for its dawn whale-watching boats. The transfer down to Bentota and the ride home both run on the expressway; the switch to Mirissa follows the coast road past Hikkaduwa's reef and Galle's 17th-century fort. No day loses more than three and a half hours to driving.
