Beach & Water route · May to October
Sri Lanka Itinerary: 10 Days - East Coast Beaches
Between May and September the east has the island's best sea, and this trip works down all of it. Trincomalee brings Nilaveli beach and Pigeon Island snorkelling. Pasikudah's bay stays shallow a hundred metres out, and Arugam Bay's Main Point break holds a rideable swell through the May-to-September season, with board rental and lessons available right on the beach. Anuradhapura's ruins open the trip; an Udawalawe safari and a Galle Fort night bring it home.

May to October
Best May to September for the east coast leg (Trincomalee, Pasikudah and Arugam Bay), when seas are calm and surf is consistent. Udawalawe's elephant safari runs year-round, useful since Yala's Blocks 1 and 2 close for several weeks from around mid-September most years (dates set annually).
