Sri Lanka Itinerary: 10 Days - Yala Safari Classic
For visitors who will not leave without Yala. The trip runs the familiar arc through Sigiriya, Kandy, the tea country and Ella, then drops to Tissamaharama for two days of game drives; Yala's leopards are famously indifferent to jeeps, which is exactly what you want for photographs. Sigiriya's 200-metre rock fortress, built by a 5th-century king, is the morning's climb, followed by the 2,000-year-old cave shrines of Dambulla Cave Temple. The drive on to Kandy via Matale, about 2.5 hours, arrives in time for the evening drum ceremony at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
